THIS IS NOT A FESTIVAL.
Off Tha’ Block Film Exhibition was created to strengthen a community of filmmakers, to start a dialogue between artists, and to supply a platform to showcase their work. We value the theatrical experience, and even amidst the pandemic, OTB is innovating creative ways to continue exhibiting work in a communal way. No matter if it’s in a theatre, or virtual, we are committed to giving films the chance to be seen.
It was all started by small group of passionate filmmakers in Savannah, Georgia with an urge to see their community’s work on the big screen. Much of our time was spent developing, filming, and editing projects - hours of labor to create a product, but rarely was there a plan for a proper release or an opportunity to see the finished films. It seemed that as soon as a project was completed, it was off to festivals, never to be seen or enjoyed for months (even years) by the people who worked so hard to create it. As a result, we came together to create an opportunity for films to be screened properly, on the silver screen.
WE DO NOT HAND OUT AWARDS.
Our focus isn’t on creating a competitive environment, we strive to create a communal one, where the real reward is being able to share your film with other artists who are going to appreciate it, and grow from it. We want to focus on creating an experience that celebrates the craft and artistry of filmmaking, with an emphasis on elevating works of all genres from emerging artists, people of color, women, and other underrepresented groups.
